Our Story & Mission

Founded in 1978, HelpAge India is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to the cause of India's elderly population. We believe every senior citizen has the right to an active, healthy, and dignified life.

With a population of over 138 million elderly (aged 60+), India faces unique challenges in elder care. HelpAge India works across 25 states and union territories, addressing critical issues through direct intervention, advocacy, and partnerships.

Our mission is to serve disadvantaged older persons, especially widowed women, those living alone, the disabled, and those below the poverty line, irrespective of race, religion, caste, or creed.

Success Story: Kamla Devi

"At 78, I was alone and struggling with failing eyesight. HelpAge India's mobile medical unit visited my village in Rajasthan. They arranged cataract surgery for me. Today, I can see clearly again and even stitch clothes to earn a small income. I feel alive and useful."
